How to do stamping on resin
🔥 How to Emboss on Resin (Step-by-Step)
✅ Option 1: Heat Embossing on Resin Surface
This is best for flat cured resin pieces (like coasters, tags, or jewelry bases).
You’ll Need:
-
Brass stamp (custom works great!)
-
Heat gun or torch (not a hairdryer)
-
Foil or pigment powder (if doing foil effect)
-
Optional: Metallic embossing powder + embossing ink
Steps:
-
Cure Your Resin First
Make sure your resin piece is fully hardened and cured (typically 24–72 hours). -
Heat the Brass Stamp
Use a heat gun or blowtorch to evenly heat your brass stamp (like you would for leather). -
Press Firmly
Once hot, press it straight down on the resin surface for a few seconds. Don't move it around to avoid smudges. -
Cool Down
Let it cool and you’ll see the embossed design! Optionally, rub metallic powder or ink into the grooves for a shiny finish.
✅ Option 2: Emboss While Resin is Soft (Before Fully Cured)
Great for domed or slightly soft resin within its gel-like phase (8–12 hrs in for most epoxies).
Steps:
-
Partially Cure Resin
Wait until your resin is slightly tacky or in a "gel state" — it should hold shape but still give a bit. -
Use Unheated Brass Stamp or Silicone Stamp
Press your design into the soft resin — no heat needed. You can leave the stamp in place for a few minutes to hold detail. -
Let it Fully Cure
Leave the impression in place if needed while the resin fully hardens.
💡 Pro Tips:
-
Practice on a scrap piece before embossing your final work.
-
Use a clear resin for depth, or pigmented resin for contrast.
-
Metallic rubs or mica powders can make the design pop after embossing.
